wood pellets

WHAT IS WOOD PELLETS

Wood pellets are small, typically 6mm in diameter and no more than 15mm long. They are made from processed sawdust and wood chips that have been dried, heated and compressed. When heated and exposed to high pressure, lignin, the binding component in wood, softens and allows the wood product to be shaped and pressed into a pellet.

USES OF WOOD PELLETS

Wood pellets are new biomass fuel. For the low cost and high burning rate, it's a good substitute for firewood, coal, oil, gas. Wood pellets are widely used in heating, cooking, boiler and power plant.
In developed countries making wood pellets is for the purposes of wood pellet fuel, animal bedding and BBQ wood pellets. In developing countries making wood pellets is mainly for the use as a cooking fuel in none powdered gasification stoves. In developing countries the damage of deforestation is a growing problem. Through pellets, the use of waste wood residue and particularly waste agricultural residue such as straw can be upgraded into pellets. Using pellets in the cooking stoves produces far more heat, and gets to temperature much more quickly. It also takes much less wood to cook food, and this can play a crucial role in reducing deforestation as populations continue to increase. It can also bring more local employment.

QUALITY OF WOOD PELLETS

1. Descriptions:
Wood pellets is a renewable resource, fuel that is already widely available in the world nowadays. The sawdust or wood shavings is compressed under great pressure and forced through holes. This is a hot process and the natural lignin in the sawdust/wood shavings melts and binds the dust together, holding the pellet in shape and giving it that characteristic sheen on the outside.

2. Economic efficiency:
Wood pellets are extremely dense and can be produced with a low moisture content (below 10%) that allows them to be burned with a very high combustion efficiency. Their high density also permits compact storage and rational transport over long distance. Electricity generated from pellets in converted coal plants is almost the same cost as electricity generated from natural gas, diesels.

3. Environmentally friendly:
Wood pellets is a sustainable fuel that can deliver a significant reduction in net carbon emissions when compared with fossil fuels. Its production and use also brings additional environmental and social benefits.

4. Using scopes:
Biomass fuels replaces fossil fuels in power plants, stoves, boiler of textile, food, leather, animal feeding, dye industrial and animal bedding.
